PRODUCTS INSPIRED BY MYLAPORE LIFE

Mylapore is a small, yet significant locality in Chennai with a unique culture of its own. It is famous for its temples, Kulam (pond belonging to the temple), the small road side shops along the streets selling pooja items, South Indian Vegetarian restaurants like Saravana Bhavan and Karpagambal mess, Strong filter coffee, Madisar aunties drawing pulli kolam outside the house and panjakacham mamas singing carnatic music early in the morning  to name a few.

The products that have been developed are inspired by this breathtaking Mylapore life. Below are a some of the snapshots of Mylapore.

SONG POSTER

These are posters for the bollywood song 'Dhoom thana' from the movie 'Om Shanthi Om'. The movie is set in the 1970s. The posters reveal both the era as well as the song.

The first one is a hand made poster, designed using the cut paper illustration technique. Each and every piece of graphic is a cut piece of paper, put together cohesively to form a poster.

The second poster is also for the same song, except it is designed using hand rendered and digital illustrations. The charecters are hand rendered while the rest of the poster is digitally designed.

STAMP DESIGN

Primary education is taken for granted in most parts of India. Among all the available media,  stamps dedicated to education can convey this issue at a national level.

These stamps depict warli characters involved in mathematics, writing, reading and science. Warlis are playful Indian tribal art characters always at work.
